Curriculum

Step One in Becoming a Top Technician

Becoming a top technician today requires skills that simply can’t be taught in technical schools due to the rapidly evolving heavy-duty industry. Since they haven’t been able to learn these skills, technicians often get overwhelmed and frustrated with difficult electrical issues or repeat failures. This class will cover key concepts and the out-of-the-box thinking that technicians need to become true diagnosticians.

See All Topics

Topics Covered:

  • How and where to begin your diagnostic steps each time you receive a vehicle for diagnosing
  • Essential tools for performing most diagnostics
  • How to rank fault codes and the importance of diagnosing the correct code
  • The importance of visual and audible cues
  • The importance of quickly locating and utilizing repair information
  • What questions to ask the driver/operator and why this conversation is so important but often overlooked
  • How to effectively and efficiently verify your repairs to eliminate comebacks and multi-repairs

Start Looking at the Whole Picture

Technicians deal with a wide variety of scenarios and many trainings are geared towards a “perfect world” where diagnostics can be performed the same on every vehicle. As we all know, that’s not the case. This class will teach technicians how to create a personal workflow with a new way of thinking that will lead them to the right repair every time.

Stop Wasting Time on Incorrect Repairs

How often have you seen technicians spend hours on diagnosing an issue and replacing parts only to realize they’re not addressing the root cause? This class will give technicians the skills to evaluate “ghost repairs” from real repairs.

Hands-on Training

To help reinforce the concepts learned in this course, technicians will get hands-on training connecting to a live vehicle and identifying fault codes. This hands-on training will have technicians walk through all the steps needed to identify the root cause of the issue. They’ll also learn how to look up any repair information or specs needed to diagnose the issue.

Benefits for Diesel Technicians

Technicians will leave this class knowing how to get from repair order to completed vehicle as seamlessly as possible. These skills will help technicians reach a higher level of overall diagnostic knowledge that can be utilized on any vehicle or piece of equipment in any shop.

Benefits for Shop Owners and Managers

With the lack of technicians in the workforce, building these foundations of diagnostic skills in current technicians is imperative to making your business or shop run smoothly. This class will allow your technicians to work more efficiently thus creating a faster turnaround time for vehicles and equipment and resulting in the correct repair the first time around.

Coronavirus precautions

COVID-19 Precautions
